How to Survive the Beach with Kids

Beach and kids – doesn’t it sound like the perfect recipe for disaster? As you try to keep your eyes on one of them, the other one succeeds to disappear.

You reminisce the days when beach meant fun and peace, whereas now, it merely adds to your chores.

Whether it be camping with your kids or taking them to the beach, any outdoor activity seems like a nightmare.

If you are one such parent, don’t worry for we are here to tell you how to survive the beach with kids.

How to Survive the Beach with Kids

1 – Plan Ahead

Remember the time when you could make the decision to go to the beach instantaneously? When all you had to worry about was finding the perfect swimwear and eating essentials? Well, things will change when you decide to go to the beach with kids.

Firstly, you will lose the liberty of making spontaneous plans. Instead, you will need to think it through thoroughly and decide whether you are ready for such a trip.

You will also need to get your hands on various items like sandy toys, the right sunscreen, baby essentials and a rolling cart to transport all of this from your car to the sand.

Plan, purchase and hit the beach.

2 – Get Yourself a Baby Beach Tent

If your children are toddlers or in their terrible twos, it is best to invest in a baby beach tent. You might wonder, why is that so? Well, on a long sunny day by the sea, you child is bound to feel drowsy and will need a place to nap in.

You wouldn’t want that place to be your lap all the time now, would you? A baby beach tent is one of the baby essentials you need in your life if you are a proud parent of toddlers.

3 – Fill Your Beach Bag with Diapers and Plastic Bags

Gone are the days when your bag used to be full of junk food and sunscreen. Now, you will need a much bigger bag to carry all the baby essentials. Gratefully, many brands now make beach bags for moms or large diaper bags that you can use for this purpose.

Always put a handful of plastic bags along with diapers and baby bottles in your beach bag. You never know when the nappy monster will strike. You need to be ready for it at all times, even when you are chilling by the beach.

4 – Choose Your Spot Strategically

Whether you have kids or not, everyone always wants the perfect spot when planning a beach picnic. The only difference is that when you have kids, the definition of a perfect location changes drastically.

If you have children, it is best to choose a place which is not directly under the sun. Moreover, make sure there is a way through which your child can remember where you are in case they get lost. The best way to ensure that is by finding a place close to the lifeguard.

5 – Follow the Guidelines on Sunscreen Use

Children’s skins are more sensitive than ours, so they need substantial protection from the sun. The American Academy of Pediatrics has laid down specific guidelines related to the proper application of sunscreen. It is integral for you to follow them.

Equip your child with hats, cover-ups and sunglasses to make sure they are not exposed to the sun, especially from 10 am to 4 pm. Reapply sunscreen every two hours for consistent protection or after your kid has had a dip in the beach.

6 – De-Sand Your Child to Avoid the Mess

Whether it be the beach or providing your babies with a sandbox for kids, one consequence of kids having fun is the mess they leave behind or literally get themselves in. We are talking about the sand.

Getting sandy toddlers clean can be a tiresome task if you approach it the wrong way. You may wonder, what is the right way then? We have two words for you – baby powder. All you need to do is sprinkle a bit of baby powder on your child’s sandy body and rest assured that cleaning the sand will become a piece of cake.

7 – Have Fun

Last but not the least, make sure you enjoy yourself. It is not just about surviving the beach. It is about making the most of it. Give in to the craziness.

Yes, there is a lot of prep involved, but all of it will boil down to nothing if you don’t have fun at the end of it. You have the energy within you to enjoy even amidst the chaos. Bring that version of yourself out in the open, and give yourself a well-deserved break.

All in all, beach time is ideal for unwinding after a hectic and monotonous everyday life.

While having kids might turn beach time into yet another task you have to get through, if you approach it with the right mindset, you will end up having fun.

Remember, you are creating memories. Later in your life, you will reminisce about the days you spent with your little ones. Create happy recollections, and enjoy the sun as much as you can.

Don’t just survive the beach with kids. Be crazy with them. Build sandcastles. Take a dip in the sea. Chase your children around. Have the time of your life.
